彊:
1. Same as "强" (qiang - strong).
2. Adjective: Strong, grand, powerful. 【Examples】:"强壮" (qiang zhuang - robust), "身强力壮" (shen qiang li zhuang - physically strong). Tang Dynasty - Liu Zongyuan's "Yugao Huangji Fu": "外强中乾,精气内伤" (outwardly strong yet internally dry, spirit and energy are harmed).
3. Adjective: Resolute, steadfast. 【Examples】:"顽强" (wan qiang - tenacious). "Mencius. Gaozi Part II": "乐正子强乎?" (Is Lezheng stronger?). "Han Feizi. Gufen": "能法之士,必强毅而劲直" (Those who can enforce the law must be strong-willed and upright).
4. Verb: To compel, use force. 【Examples】:"勉强" (mian qiang - to do something reluctantly), "强迫" (qiang po - to force), "强人所难" (qiang ren suo nan - to put someone in a difficult position), "强词夺理" (qiang ci duo li - to argue unreasonably). "Mencius. Liliu Part I": "是由恶醉而强酒" (this is due to evil intoxication and strong liquor). "Rulin Waishi. Chapter 29": "这原是他情愿的事,又没有那个强他" (this is originally what he wished for, and there is no one to force him).
5. Adverb: To the utmost, with all one's strength. "Mencius. Liang Huiwang Part II": "君如彼何哉?强为善而已矣" (As for you, how would you be like that? You can only strive to do good).
6. Adjective: Resilient, not pliable. "Huainanzi. Zhushu": "木强而斧伐之" (the wood is strong and can be chopped by an axe). "Han Shu. Volume 42. Zhang Cang et al." : "周昌,木强人也" (Zhou Chang is a man as strong as wood).
