莨 [làng] 1. [Lángdàng] A perennial herbaceous plant with a tuberous rhizome, alternate leaves, and elongated oval shape. The seeds, rhizomes, and leaves can all be used as medicine. 莨 [liáng] 1. [Shǔliáng] A perennial climbing plant of the Dioscorea family with tuberous roots underground. The tubers contain gelatinous substances and can be used as a dye for cotton and linen fabrics, such as "香云纱" (fragrant cloud silk) or "拷纱" (steamed silk). 2. Also see láng; làng. 莨 [láng] 1. [Wolf-Tail Grass] (Chinese penni-setum). A perennial herbaceous plant. In autumn and winter, the top of the stem produces purple-black, stiff-haired, spike-like conical flower clusters that resemble a wolf's tail. It is used as fodder when young. 2. Also see làng; liáng. 引 1. From "Shuowen": 莨 is the grass that produces 莨. It combines grass with good sound. 2. From "Records of the Grand Historian - Biography of Sima Xiangru": When the ground is humble and damp, it produces 藏莨. 例 - For example: 莨尾 (name of a plant, which refers to dogtail grass); 莨莠 (two types of wild grass, often used to refer to evil individuals, or to indicate a place overgrown with weeds). 2.
