鳄 (è)
1. A genus of reptiles, with a large body length ranging from three to six meters. Its body is covered with grayish-brown hard skin and is known to be aggressive. They live in rivers and swamps in tropical and subtropical regions, preying on fish, frogs, and sometimes even humans and livestock. Commonly referred to as "crocodile" or "alligator." For example, "鳄鱼眼泪" (crocodile tears), a metaphor for the false pity of bad people.
2. 鳄鱼 ([En.] alligator; crocodile). A type of large, thick-skinned semi-aquatic reptile found in tropical and subtropical waters, belonging to the genus Crocodylus and one or two closely related genera, including certain greedy species (such as the Nile crocodile or the giant estuarine crocodile found in East Asia and the Pacific islands). These species will attack humans without hesitation.
3. The common name for the blunt-snouted crocodile ([En.] alligator). One of the two species belonging to the genus Alligator.
