([En.] The original meaning: an ancient type of covered wagon, also known as "zī chē".) 1. 同本义 ([En.] Covered wagon) 2. ([En.] "Shiming" states: A zī chē is a vehicle that carries heavy supplies and allows resting within.) 2. ([En.] "Zilin" explains: A zī refers to a vehicle used for carrying clothes, which is covered in front and back. Modern equivalents include lǐ chē with a shelter called zī, and without it known as xiāng. Xiāng vehicles cover items without a rear axle; if there is a rear axle, it is called zī.) 3. ([En.] According to "Shuowen": A zī has covers at both front and back, derived from ‘vehicle’ and sounds like ‘zī’. Note: Xiāng has a front cover; zī has covers both at front and back.) 4. "Zuo Zhuan" states: When both ends are covered, it’s called zī; if it carries a heavy load, it’s called zhòng. If people pull it, it's referred to as niǎn; it's one and the same thing.) 5. ([En.] Zhang Heng in "Dongjing fu" wrote: "Never part from heavy supplies all day." Note: "Zī zhòng has covered vehicles.") 6. ([En.] "Guanzi" mentions: The vehicles of the local army carry supplies and what provisions do they carry?) For example: zī chē (a vehicle covered with a canopy and curtains); zī jiào (a carriage surrounded by curtains); zī qí (a vehicle carrying goods).) 2. ([En.] "Huainanzi" mentions: "When roads are urgent, manage zī supplies, this is an official role.") For example: zī liáng (military supplies); zī náng (bags of personal items carried with the army, referring to supplies brought along).)
