-柃木 ([En.] Japanese eurya; common eurya) is a type of shrub with angular young branches, either hairless or with sparse hairs. The leaves are fleshy and range from oval to rectangular-lanceolate in shape, with blunt teeth along the edges. The flowers are white, and the fruit is round. The branches and leaves can be used medicinally, and when burnt to ash, the ashes can be used as a dyeing agent. The fruit can also be used as a dye. The wood is suitable for fine carpentry and as fuel for charcoal.
