槲 [hú] 名 1. 〔~寄生〕A small evergreen shrub characterized by soft, jointed stems, featuring separate male and female plants. It parasitizes branches of trees such as oak, poplar, willow, and elm. Its stems and leaves are used in traditional Chinese medicine. 2. A deciduous tree or shrub with hard wood. Its leaves can be used to feed silkworms, the bark can be used as a dye, and its fruit has medicinal properties. 3. Refers to the daimyo oak (Japanese: 柞栎). A type of deciduous tree in the oak family, characterized by large, alternately arranged, broad oval leaves with coarsely serrated edges. It is monoecious with unisexual flowers: male flowers in soft catkin inflorescences and shorter female flowers in spikes. The acorns are ovate and have a cup-shaped cap. This tree has hard wood, and its bark and leaves have medicinal uses. It is distributed in China, Korea, and Japan.
