跂 [qí] 1. 多生的脚趾。 Having extra toes. 2. 爬动。 To crawl. 3. 慢走。 To walk slowly. --- 1. 同本义 (having extra toes) “故合者不为骈,而枝者不为~。” "Those that are united do not have two [toes], while those that branch do not become extra." 2. 通“歧”。分叉 (fork) “~行喙息蠕动之类,莫不就安利而辟危殆。” “Those that crawl or wriggle all manage to be comfortable and avoid danger.” 3. 另见 qì (see qì) --- 古通“企”,踮起。 Anciently, it was used interchangeably with "企", meaning to stand on tiptoe. “吾尝~而望矣。” "I have once stood on tiptoe to look." --- 跂 [qì] 1. 抬起脚后跟站着。 To stand on tiptoe. 2. 盼望;向往;企求。 To hope for; yearn for; long for. 3. 另见 qí (see qí) --- 引: 1. 《荀子·非十二子》:离纵而跂訾者也。 "He who stands high casts shadows." This means "to stand out from the crowd and let one's ambitions be known." 2. 《荀子·劝学》:吾尝跂而望矣。 "I once stood on tiptoe and gazed." 例: 又如:跂望(举起脚跟远望);跂踵(举起脚跟远望);跂予望之(举起脚跟远望) Examples include: "to gaze by standing on tiptoe"; "to look far by raising one's heels". 2. 盼望;向往;企求。 To hope for; yearn for; long for. 引: 1. 《史记·高祖纪》:日夜跂而望归。 "Day and night I long for the return." 例: 又如:跂及(企及);跂仰(钦仰;想慕);跂足(喻盼望,期望) Examples include: "to reach out for something"; "to admire with longing"; "to express hope and expectation."
