1. Adverb, indicating the meaning of similarity or parallel:
你去,我也去。
(You go, I also go.)
2. In negative sentences, it strengthens the tone:
一点儿也不错。
(Not bad at all.)
3. In compound sentences, it expresses a contrast:
虽然你不说,我也能猜个八九不离十。
(Even if you don't say it, I can still guess pretty close.)
4. Classical Chinese modal particle (1. to indicate judgment; 2. to indicate questioning; 3. to indicate pause; 4. following adjectives).
5. Indicates tolerance or acknowledgment of a certain situation:
也罢。
(Let's just say it's fine.)
6. Also expresses similarity:
亦表示同样 (En: also; too; as well; either).
7. Used in the end of a sentence to indicate judgment or affirming tone, similar to "ah" or "ya".
8. Used in a sentence to indicate a pause.
