筮 (shì)
1. (verb) In ancient times, to use the stalks of the yarrow plant for divination.
古代用蓍草占卦。
2. In ancient times, to use the stalks of yarrow for divination: "Turtle for divination, yarrow for ~." ~ official (In ancient times, before going out to serve in government, one would first divine for auspiciousness. Later, the first time serving as an official was referred to as "筮仕").
