1. According to "Shuowen Jiezi": 郢 was the former capital of the Chu state, located ten miles north of Jiangling County. It is derived from the character for town and phonetically resembles 'Ying.' It is noted that during the reign of King Wu of Chu, he returned from Danyang (present-day Yichang) to this location.
