隱: 1. Commonly found in “隐”. 2. Verb: To rely on, to depend on. Example: In the "Liji, Tangu xià": "After burial and sealing, the wide wheel can be hidden, its height may be concealed." Han dynasty scholar Zheng Xuan’s commentary: "隐 means to depend." 3. To hide. Word formation: 藏匿 (to conceal). 4. To conceal and cover up. Word formation: 直言不隐 (to speak frankly without concealment). 5. Hidden, not revealed; opposite of "显". Word formation: 隐情 (hidden feelings), 隐疾 (hidden illness), 隐性 (recessive). 6. Secrets not known to others. Word formation: 难言之隐 (a secret hard to express). 7. Verb: To hide. In the "Shuowen Jiezi, Fu bu": "隐 means to conceal." In the "Book of Jin, Chapter 94, Biography of Recluse, Xia Tong": "Good at singing and dancing, can also hide and conceal itself." Poem by Li Bai: "The trees mix with the sun and are easily hidden; the cliffs dim the moon which is hard to round." 8. Verb: To cover up. Word formation: 直言不隐 (to speak frankly without concealment). In Su Shi’s letter to Emperor Shen Zong of the Song dynasty: "If one cow is lost, it will be concealed and not mentioned; if five sheep are caught, it will be indicated as a labor achievement."
