蓍 [shī]
1. Yarrow: A perennial herbaceous plant whose entire body can be used for medicinal purposes; the stem and leaves can be made into spices. It is commonly known as "蚰蜒草" (yóuyán cǎo) or "锯齿草" (jùchǐ cǎo). In ancient times, its stems were used for divination, as in "蓍龟" (shī guī).
2. Origin from the "Shuōwén" (说文): 蓍, belongs to the mugwort family. It is composed of the element for herbs and the sound for "耆". It grows a thousand years with three hundred stems.
