渭 [wèi] 1. Wei River: A water name. It originates from Niaoshu Mountain in Weiyuan County, Gansu Province, flows through Shaanxi Province, converging with the Jing River and North Luo River, and enters the Yellow River at Tongguan County. It is 810 kilometers long, with its basin located in the Guanzhong Plain. 例: 如:渭川 (i.e., Wei River; also refers generically to the Wei River basin); 渭川千亩 (referring to the lushness of bamboo); 渭阳 (referring to an uncle by marriage). 2. An ancient prefecture name (Wei prefecture). 3. Established by the Northern Wei dynasty under Emperor Zhuang. During the Qing dynasty, it was known as Gongchang Prefecture, located southwest of present-day Longxi County, Gansu Province. 4. Established during the Liao dynasty, located in present-day Heishan County, Liaoning Province.
